By Zoila Palma: The United States Department of State reportedly plans to suspend visa processing for 75 countries including Belize commencing January 21, Fox report.
A memo reportedly seen first by Fox News indicates that the directive instructs U.S. embassies to refuse visas under existing law while the department reassesses its screening procedures.
Countries affected also include Somalia, Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, Brazil, Nigeria and Thailand, among others, though the State Department did not immediately provide a full official list.
The memo, which the department circulated to consular posts abroad, directs officers to halt visa issuance temporarily as procedures are reevaluated.
No timeline has been given for when processing might resume.
