By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 55-year-old resident of the Lords Bank area is behind bars following allegations of sexual assault involving a minor dating back nearly three years.
Efrain Palacio appeared before the Chief Magistrate in Court #1 on Monday, January 12, where he was formally arraigned on three counts of rape of a child. Due to the gravity of the charges, no plea was taken, and Palacio was unrepresented during the proceedings.
The charges stem from a series of reports made by a victim who is now 13 years old. Accompanied by her mother, the minor visited the police station on January 8, 2026, to report three separate incidents.
According to the reports, the offenses occurred in February 2023 at a residence where the victim was staying when she was 11 years and 4 months.
During the arraignment, the Chief Magistrate explained that bail could not be granted at this stage due to the sensitive and serious nature of the offenses.
As a result, Palacio has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison. He is scheduled to return to court on April 30, 2026, a date which has also been set for the prosecution to provide disclosure to the accused.
