By Breaking Belize News Staff: A domestic dispute between a young couple ended with the accused walking free on Monday after the complainant requested that no further court action be taken.
Twenty-three-year-old Ceron Usher, a LIU worker and receptionist of #11 Handyside Street, Belize City, appeared in police custody before Magistrate Mannon Dennison, where he was read two charges—one count of aggravated assault and one count of common assault. Usher pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Police alleged that on Friday, January 9, 2026, Usher assaulted his girlfriend with a dangerous instrument, namely a hammer. However, during the court proceedings, the girlfriend took the stand and informed the court that she did not wish to proceed with the matter.
In light of the virtual complainant’s request, the prosecutor offered no further evidence, and the charges were struck out for want of prosecution. Usher was subsequently told he was free to go.
Before leaving the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, Usher was required to settle outstanding fines owed to the court. Those fines were paid by the same girlfriend who had asked that the charges be withdrawn.
The pair were seen leaving the courthouse together, embracing as they exited.
