By Breaking Belize News Staff: Well-known Kings Park businessman Alfonso Mario Ayuso, 65, is out on bail after being arraigned late Monday afternoon on a charge of sexual assault involving a 21-year-old college student.

Ayuso was escorted by police to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he appeared around 2:45 p.m. in Court #6 before Magistrate Mannon Dennison, represented by attorney Andrew Bennett. He was read a single charge of sexual assault and pleaded not guilty.

The allegation stems from an incident on October 6, 2025, when Ayuso is accused of intentionally touching the right buttocks of a 21-year-old female without her consent while she was inside his grocery store in the Kings Park area on the north side of Belize City.

There was no objection to bail, but the prosecution requested conditions. Magistrate Dennison granted Ayuso bail in the sum of $3,500 with one surety of the same amount, which he met. As part of his bail conditions, Ayuso is prohibited from contacting the virtual complainant or any prosecution witnesses, must remain at least 100 feet away from the complainant, and is required to report every Friday to Precinct 3 (Queen Street Police Station) between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., beginning Friday, January 16, 2026.

Ayuso is due back in court on March 12, 2026, a date also set for disclosure to be provided.

According to police, the complainant reported that she went into Ayuso’s grocery store to purchase noodles when the incident occurred. She told investigators that during a brief conversation, Ayuso commented about his business doing poorly, after which he allegedly touched her inappropriately, leaving her feeling annoyed and uncomfortable.

Court records further note that in 2018, Ayuso was convicted and sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for sexual assault in a separate matter involving a minor under the age of 16.
