By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Two Guatemalan nationals have been formally charged after police and customs officers intercepted a vehicle carrying prohibited ammunition in the Cayo District.
Police identified the accused as Nestor Galdamez, 50, and Edwardo Galdamez, 30. Both men were arrested and charged with kept prohibited ammunition following an operation conducted by the Mobile Interdiction Unit.
According to police, the interception occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, along Hydro Road. MIU officers reported that while on mobile patrol, they were alerted to customs officers pursuing a black Toyota Hilux pickup truck.
After the vehicle was stopped, a search was conducted, during which officers discovered 14 live rounds of .40mm ammunition inside the pickup. The ammunition was seized, and both occupants were detained.
Police say the men were later formally charged, and investigations remain ongoing.
