“Belize is facing an alarming surge in murders, armed robberies, home invasions, and brazen acts of violence that are leaving families traumatized and communities on edge. Too many Belizeans now live with the daily fear that they could be targeted simply for going to work, returning home, or opening their front door,” Panton said.
Panton extended “condolences to every family grieving the loss of a loved one, and I express our solidarity with every victim who has been robbed, violated, or terrorized. The trauma being inflicted on our people is real and it is growing. This is not normal, and it must never be normalized.”
“We acknowledge the difficult and dangerous work carried out by many rank-and-file police officers. However, the public cannot ignore what is increasingly evident: criminal networks have become more organized, more heavily armed, and more emboldened, while the national response appears reactive, inconsistent, and unable to deter repeat violence. Belizeans do not need posturing. We need protection. We need results,” Panton added.
Panton reaffirmed that the UDP is prepared to engage in a bipartisan approach to addressing this urgent national crisis.
“We are prepared to be part of the solution. Public safety must rise above politics. This crisis must be met with urgency, transparency, and measurable outcomes.
We will continue to speak up, press for answers, and insist on real action, not excuses. Protecting the lives of Belizean is not optional. It is the first duty of the State,” Panton expressed.
