By Zoila Palma:  Venezuelans in South Florida poured into the streets of Doral early today celebrating what many described as a historic turning point for their country following President Donald Trump’s announcement that Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro had been captured and removed from power.

Gatherings formed outside El Arepazo, a longtime hub for the Venezuelan community, where people hugged, waved flags and sang as chants of “Libertad” echoed through the neighborhood.

Demonstrators told local media the moment felt less like an act of war and more like an act of liberation, CBS reports.

Many expressed renewed hope of one day returning safely to Venezuela to reunite with family members left behind.

Doral, home to one of the largest Venezuelan populations in the United States, became a focal point of emotion, with families spanning generations—some children born in the U.S.—holding signs and flags as they reflected on decades of displacement under the governments of Hugo Chávez and Maduro.

Earlier Saturday, President Trump said on social media that Maduro and his wife were “captured and flown out of the country” following what he described as large-scale U.S. military strikes.

While questions remain about the operation and what comes next for Venezuela, many celebrating in Doral said their focus was not on U.S. politics but on the possibility of a new chapter for their homeland, expressing gratitude for the freedom to voice emotions they said would not have been possible back home.
