By Zoila Palma: Today, Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton issued a statement saying that we have always been “a Zone of Peace, sovereign nations with an unquestionable right to self-determination, to dignity, and to live by values that have defined our identity across generations.”
Panton said that “We have had to confront greed and corruption, even at the highest levels of governance. None of this justifies war. No grievance, no imperfection, no internal failing warrants the destruction that war leaves in its wake. The cost to lives, to sovereignty, to future generations is far too great a price to bear.”
The Leader of the Opposition says that our country’s “response must be principled and measured. We must choose diplomacy over domination, dialogue over destruction. We must engage international partners and institutions committed to peace, stability, justice, and democratic governance. History teaches us that power without restraint breeds instability. Bullies, regardless of size, influence, or military might, must never be allowed to dictate how free peoples live, govern themselves, or resolve their differences. It is deeply alarming to see those “superpowers” attempt to impose their will on smaller nations under the guise of security, order, or influence.”
Panton calls on everyone to stand firm for what is right, what is fair, and what is just.
“How we stand matters,” she stated.
