By Aaron Humes: Police hope to nail down the identity of a man whose body was found decomposing in an abandoned property in Orange Walk Town on Christmas Day.
Police believe the remains of a decomposed body found inside an abandoned house on Boundary Road could be those of a 35-year-old man named as Herman Alex Constantino, who relatives say had been missing for about a month. A post-mortem examination and possible DNA testing will be needed as explained by ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer for the Belize Police Department: “The scene was processed and the body was later transported to the National Forensic and Science Services laboratory where a post-mortem examination will be conducted with a view establishing the cause of death and where DNA samples will be extracted to confirm the identity of the individual. The decomposed body is suspected to be that of a 35-year-old male person from Southern Belize who was last seen by relatives on November 25, and at that time he was believed to have been undergoing some mental health crisis.”
ASP Smith added, “What I do know from a superficial review of the body [is that] no sign of foul play was observed. However, due to the state of decomposition, a more thorough examination is required to [rule that out].”
