By Breaking Belize News Staff: The High Court case against 49-year-old Wilson Flores, who stands accused of the 2019 rape of an 8-year-old girl, has been pushed into 2026. During his indictment last week, Justice Candace Nanton adjourned the matter to allow Flores additional time to secure legal representation.

Flores, a resident of Belize City, appeared before the High Court unrepresented. Given the gravity of the charges, Justice Nanton allotted him the necessary time to retain an attorney before the court proceeds with a Case Management Conference (CMC) and sets a formal trial date.

The allegations against Flores date back to a period between September and December 2019. According to police reports, the victim—who is now 13 years old—visited the station accompanied by a social worker to report that the sexual assault occurred while she was staying at a relative’s home.

Following the report, a medical examination conducted on March 29, 2023, at Belize Health Care Partners Limited confirmed the child had been carnally known. Despite the timeline of the alleged offense, Flores was not first arraigned in the Magistrate’s Court until April 23, 2024.

Justice Nanton has extended Flores’ existing bail and ordered him to return to the High Court on March 2, 2026.
