By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A Christmas Day traffic accident in Orange Walk Town has resulted in the arrest of two men, both of whom police say were driving under the influence of alcohol.

The incident occurred on Thursday, December 25, 2025, around 6:15 p.m. Police reports indicate that officers on mobile patrol encountered a silver Toyota Sienna van with extensive damage near the intersection of Belize/Corozal Road and Guadalupe Street. The van’s rear bumper had been ripped off, its windshield shattered, and the entire left side showed heavy scraping.

Investigations revealed that 23-year-old Adriel Novelo, an electrician of Bakers Street, was driving a black Ford F-150 when he collided with the van, which was being driven in the opposite direction by 49-year-old Giordanni Abel Garcia. Following the collision, Novelo reportedly drove off but was intercepted by police a short distance away. His vehicle was found with front-end damage and a deflated front wheel.

Police say that upon interacting with both drivers, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol and observed slurred speech from both men.

Novelo was arrested and charged with Driving Without Due Care and Attention, Driving a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Drinks or Drugs, and Driving Without a Valid License, as his driver’s license had expired on December 22. Garcia was also informed of his offenses, which include Driving a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence of Drinks or Drugs, as well as operating an unregistered and unlicensed motor vehicle.

While Novelo was not injured in the crash, Garcia complained of pain to the left side of his body. Both men were escorted to the Orange Walk Police Station for processing.
