By Aaron Humes: The Government of Belize is launching a share sale offer for Hydro Belize Limited, formerly Fortis Belize Limited, starting tomorrow, Thursday, December 18. The company owns three hydroelectric power plants – Mollejon, Chalillo, and Vaca – which provide approximately a third of Belize’s annual power supply.
The government is offering 4 million shares, representing 50 percent of the company’s outstanding shares, at BZ$29 per share. If all shares are sold, the government expects to recoup BZ$116 million.
The share sale is part of the government’s divestment program, aiming to allow Belizean individuals and investors to own shares in Hydro Belize. The Social Security Board is expected to be a major investor in the remaining 50 percent shareholding.
Application forms are available online or at major branches of Atlantic Bank Limited. The share sale closes on January 20, 2026, and subscribers have until February 4, 2026, to complete payment.
