By Aaron Humes: A joyful atmosphere turned tense at the annual Christmas parade on Saturday when an altercation occurred on Albert Street, prompting a swift police response. Witnesses reported a confrontation among a group of young men, leading to concerns about the potential involvement of a firearm.

Assistant Superintendent Stacy Smith, Police Department Staff Officer addressed the incident during Monday’s press briefing, clarifying that no injuries were reported, and there was no evidence of a gun being present. “In relation to the incident that unfolded near the ending of the Christmas parade on Saturday what I have been advised is that some report was made that a male person approached a group of individuals brandishing a firearm and that created a disturbance and police officers that were in the area responded and they were advised by persons from the police control room. A number of persons were detained in relation to this and interviews were conducted on them with a view to establishing what in fact occurred in that incident,” she explained.

Smith further noted that although there were initial claims about a gun being involved, comprehensive investigations revealed no weapon was retrieved at the scene.

Several individuals were detained for questioning as officers sought to establish the facts surrounding the confrontation.
