By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Several passengers were injured after a Caribbean Sprinter water taxi crashed into mangroves during heavy rainfall earlier today.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m., when poor visibility caused by intense rain reportedly disoriented the vessel. A passenger stated that the captain struggled to navigate and that the boat continued moving without slowing down.
As the vessel attempted to enter a narrow channel between mangroves, the captain allegedly lost control of the steering. The boat struck the mangroves on the right side and became entangled in branches.
The captain reportedly sustained a head injury, while at least three passengers suffered minor injuries, including one American national. No deaths have been reported.
Officials have yet to issue an official report on the crash.
