By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A 33-year-old man from Mony Mel Street in Orange Walk has been arrested and charged after police discovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition inside his home on Monday afternoon.

Around 4:00 pm on December 8, members of the Mobile Interdiction Unit, along with Customs and Excise officers, conducted a search at a two-storey residence. During the search, an officer found a black CZ 9mm pistol inside a wooden bureau. When asked if he had a gun license, the man reportedly said no.

Police say the weapon contained three live rounds of ammunition. The man was informed of the offences of kept firearm without a gun license and kept ammunition without a gun license, cautioned, and taken into custody.

Both the firearm and ammunition were packaged, sealed, and labeled in the presence of the suspect and a supervising officer. He was later identified as Jean Claude Peraza, 33.

Peraza has since been formally charged and cautioned. He chose to remain silent.
