National Sports Council kicks off Kids Athletics 2025 after Sports Coordinators’ Workshop

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ The National Sports Council of Belize (NSC) has officially launched its Kids Athletics 2025 competitions across the country, following a three-day Kids Athletics Workshop for Sports Coordinators hosted in collaboration with the Belize Athletics Association.

Held from November 26–28 at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the workshop empowered coordinators with the tools, creativity, and confidence to deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate athletics programmes for children. Facilitators included:

  • 🎓 Mia Sylvester – BSc Exercise Science, University of Idaho; Master’s (in progress), Baylor University
  • 🏅 Vivet Palacio – Bachelor’s in Physical Education (Cuba)
  • 🏃 Shelmadine Carr – Level 2 Track & Field Coach

Participants explored motor skill development, inclusive training plans, purposeful coaching, and talent nurturing through both theory and hands-on sessions. The workshop culminated in a mini competition led by coordinators and children, setting the tone for the nationwide rollout.

🗓 Zone Competitions Underway Across Belize

With the workshop complete, the NSC has now launched zone-level eliminations in 11 regions across the country. Competitions began today, Tuesday, December 2, and will continue through Monday, December 8.

🏆 National Finals Set for Thursday, December 11

The National Kids Athletics Championship will be held on Thursday, December 11, bringing together top performers from each region. The NSC will announce participating schools and final venue details in the coming days.

The programme features a mix of running, jumping, and throwing events designed to build foundational athletic skills in a fun, inclusive format.

  • Forward Squat Jumps – Jumping
  • Cross Hop – Jumping
  • Ball Throw – Throwing
