By Zoila Palma: The Lotteries Committee is reminding the public that no person shall promote or conduct any lottery or raffle (any scheme for distribution of prizes by lot or chance), unless they obtain a licence or a letter of authorization for raffle in accordance with the Lotteries Control Act, Chapter 151 of the Laws of Belize.
“Every person who intends to promote or conduct any lottery or raffle, with a total accumulated value of prizes of $500.00 Belize dollars or more, shall apply in writing to the Lotteries Committee. All applications are to be addressed to the Secretary of the Lotteries Committee,” the committee said.
In addition, all raffles sanctioned by the Lotteries Committee are assigned a reference number, and that number must be displayed on all tickets when being advertised.
The Lotteries Committee has posted on its website the names of applicants who have been approved for a raffle licence and are authorised to host raffles.
Any violation of the Lotteries Control Act and its regulations is an offence.
Violators may be penalized on summary conviction in a court of law.
