By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The United Democratic Party’s national convention, held yesterday, delivered a decisive outcome in the race for party chairman, one that ended another comeback attempt by former minister John Saldivar. Official results show Saldivar finishing second in the three-way contest, earning 99 votes, far behind the winner Sheena Pitts, who secured a commanding 326 votes. Roosevelt Blades placed third with 75 votes.
Saldivar had campaigned heavily on experience and party organization, but the results reflected a strong desire among delegates for fresh leadership as the UDP continues restructuring. Delegates across all three voting stations delivered consistent support for Pitts, marking a clear shift toward a new direction within the party.
Yesterday’s vote officially closed Saldivar’s latest effort to regain a senior leadership position, a bid watched closely due to his controversial political past. The new chairwoman now joins incoming Party Leader Tracy Taegar Panton at the helm of a reorganizing UDP.
