By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A quiet afternoon at Yi Li Store in Guinea Grass Village erupted into violence on Saturday when a man allegedly pulled a knife on a shop attendant in broad daylight.
Police say the attendant was standing near the shop entrance when another man approached, drew a large knife from his waist, and attempted to stab him without warning. Caught off guard, the attendant grabbed the nearest object—a chips box—to shield himself. The improvised defense prevented a more serious injury, though the blade still grazed his right forearm.
He was later treated for the wound and issued medico-legal forms.
Officers immediately launched a search for the suspect, visiting a nearby residence where he was believed to be hiding, but he was not located. Investigators say the man remains wanted for questioning.
Residents report that tensions between the two men had been escalating in recent weeks, though police have not confirmed a motive for the attack.
Police continue to track the suspect’s whereabouts as the investigation unfolds. Police are urging anyone with information to contact the nearest station.
