By Zoila Palma: Belize’s latest Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) data reveals mixed sentiment among households across the country, reflecting fluctuating perceptions of economic conditions and future spending.
The CCI measures consumer sentiment on general economic conditions, household finances, and major purchases, providing an early indicator of potential household spending, saving, and overall economic growth, the Statistical Institute of Belize notes.
Toledo District recorded the sharpest decline in confidence, with the index falling 12.2 percent from 50.1 in September 2025 to 44.0 in October.
The drop was driven largely by a 38.8 percent decline in the ‘Durable Goods’ component, which fell from 52.7 to 32.3, and an 8.8 percent decrease in the ‘Present’ component, from 42.2 to 38.5.
Meanwhile, Orange Walk District saw the largest improvement in consumer confidence, rising 6.2 percent from 42.8 in September to 45.5 in October.
Gains were primarily driven by a 10.6 percent increase in the ‘Durable Goods’ component, from 31.8 to 35.2, and an 8.6 percent rise in the ‘Expectations’ component, from 53.5 to 58.1, indicating growing optimism about future economic conditions.
