By Breaking Belize News Staff: A young Belize City man who expected to celebrate his 24th birthday as a free man is instead back behind bars—despite having a murder charge dropped earlier this morning.
Eric Frazer, of a southside Belize City address, appeared before High Court Justice Candace Nanton for what was scheduled to be a Case Management Conference (CMC) in his murder trial. However, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions entered a nolle prosequi, bringing the case to an end and freeing him of the 2019 murder accusation.
Frazer had been charged with the shooting death of 44-year-old Brindell Munnings, who was shot in August 2019 and died on October 1 of that year due to complications from his injuries. Frazer was arrested on December 27, 2019—then only 18 years old—and remanded to the Belize Central Prison. He later secured High Court bail while awaiting trial.
Frazer’s attorney, David McKoy, told the media that the defense raised serious concerns during the CMC stage, including inconsistencies in the identification evidence, questions surrounding how the victim died since he did not pass away immediately, and Frazer’s alibi.
The DPP ultimately discontinued the matter, clearing Frazer of the murder charge on his 24th birthday.
But his celebration was short-lived.
As soon as he stepped outside the courtroom, police officers informed him that he could not go home. Frazer is still facing a pending attempted murder charge, and without bail for that case, he was escorted straight back to the Belize Central Prison.
Frazer, along with 22-year-old Jahreim Staine, was charged with the attempted murder of Jimmy Rojas, an incident that allegedly occurred in January 2024 in the Faber’s Road area.
The pair had been arraigned earlier this year on June 4, 2025, sending Frazer back to prison while already out on bail for the murder case he beat today.
Attorney McKoy said he will now apply for bail for Frazer in the attempted murder matter and is optimistic the court will grant it.
For now, however, the man who walked out of court free of murder remains on remand—spending his 24th birthday behind bars once again.
