By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City construction worker accused of touching a 14-year-old girl inappropriately while she worked inside a neighborhood store has been granted bail and is scheduled to reappear in court early next year.
Carlos Balon, 50, of a Curl Thompson Street address, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6 on Tuesday, where he was read a single charge of sexual assault. The allegation stems from an incident reported on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
In court, Balon pleaded not guilty, stating, “No sir, I am not guilty,” before being advised that he should say nothing further since a plea had already been entered.
With no objection to bail, Magistrate Dennison offered Balon $4,000 bail, to be satisfied either with one surety of the same amount or two sureties of $2,000 each. Balon met bail by 2 p.m.
Balon must comply with several restrictions while awaiting trial. He must have no direct or indirect contact with the virtual complainant; remain at least 100 feet away from the minor; report to the Raccoon Street Police Station every Friday, beginning November 28, 2025; and must not be arrested or charged with any offense while on bail.
His next court appearance is set for January 13, 2026.
According to police, the 14-year-old minor, accompanied by her 34-year-old mother, reported the matter at the Raccoon Street Police Station. She told officers that between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. on November 23, she was working between two shelves at a store on Freedom Street when Balon, described as a Hispanic man she recognized, stood between her and the aisle. As she walked past him, he allegedly touched her thigh and leg without her consent, leaving her feeling uncomfortable and annoyed.
The minor immediately informed the store owner, who contacted her mother. Both then went to the police station to request court action.
Police later identified the suspect as Carlos Balon, a construction worker living in the Jane Usher Boulevard area, and formally charged him with sexual assault.
The case continues in January.
