By Aaron Humes: A 24-year-old laborer from Roaring Creek Village, Cayo District, has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on November 17 in Punta Gorda Town.
Derry Nathaniel Jahzeel I. Bennett was formally arrested today, Sunday, November 23, and charged with two counts of attempted murder.
The incident took place in front of JR Bar on George Price Street, Punta Gorda Town, at around 11:30 pm on November 17. Two men, Ashton Martin, 41, a fisherman, and Kelly Stephens, 25, an unemployed individual, sustained gunshot injuries and were transported to the Punta Gorda Community Hospital for treatment. Both victims are reportedly in stable condition.
The scene was processed by SOC Technician Erwin Choc, who retrieved 13 9mm expended shell casings. Following an investigation, a warrant was obtained, and Bennett was arrested and charged with the aforementioned offenses.
