By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A stranded dolphin that washed ashore in Hopkins Village has been officially reported to the Belize Marine Mammal Stranding Network. Officials are currently on the scene, determining the safest and most appropriate way to handle and dispose of the deceased marine mammal.

The Hopkins Village Council issued an advisory to all residents, specifically asking them not to touch or interfere with the dolphin while officials carry out their assessment and implement protocols.

Villagers were credited for their quick action, which resulted in an immediate response. Responders arrived promptly to inspect and document the scene. Shamika Martinez, a marine responder, was among the officials who conducted the initial assessment as part of the official protocol for marine stranding incidents.

The public is urged to adhere to the advisory to ensure safety and prevent the spread of potential pathogens. Further guidance on the disposal is expected to be released once the evaluation is complete.
