By Zoila Palma: Today, the Government of Belize announced that it welcomed the European Commission’s decision to approve a visa cascade for Belizean nationals holding regular, official, and diplomatic biometric passports.
The decision, which takes immediate effect, was formally communicated to Minister of Foreign Affairs Francis Fonseca and marks a significant milestone in Belize’s relationship with the European Union.
Under the new arrangement, Belizean citizens applying at Schengen embassies in Guatemala or Mexico are now eligible for five-year multiple-entry Schengen visas.
This is the most generous adaptation of the EU Visa Code available to nationals of a third country.
The measure will allow Belizeans to travel freely within the Schengen area for up to five years without the need for repeat visa applications, as long as their biometric passports remain valid.
The Government of Belize says the initiative will enhance mobility and strengthen ties in tourism, business, education, and family connections, while expressing gratitude to the European Commission for advancing cooperation and mutual trust between the two partners.
