By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 73-year-old man, Arthur Anthony, has been charged with two criminal offenses after a woman alleged that he tried to run her over with his vehicle, punched her in the neck, and bit her on the hand.
According to police, the alleged incident occurred on September 12, 2025, when the complainant, 37-year-old Jacqueline Gentle, said she was crossing the street near Mahogany Street Supermarket to greet a friend when a red vehicle driven by Anthony bumped her. Gentle told police that after the bump she was not hurt but when she approached the vehicle to confront Anthony, he punched her in the neck and bit her on her upper right hand.
Anthony, who Gentle claims she was in a “visiting relationship” with, was represented in court by attorney Ian Gray. He was arraigned on Tuesday morning in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a charge of aggravated assault with a vehicle. Later in the afternoon, he was served with a second charge of harm after the victim’s medical legal form was submitted. He pleaded not guilty to both charges and was released on $2,000 bail plus one surety of the same.
As part of his bail conditions, Anthony must stay at least 100 feet away from Gentle. His next court date is set for December 18, 2025, before Magistrate Court #6.
However, the case is a cross-complaint. Last week, on October 29, 2025, Gentle herself was arraigned on a harm charge after Anthony alleged that she attacked him, punching him several times in the face and causing swelling. Gentle, a self-employed mother of two, also pleaded not guilty and is out on bail.
