Beatriz Llenín Figueroa: “’Barrio no se borra’: Coast, Street, and Community as Living Archives in Puerto Rico”
Abstract: The coast, the street, and the community, in their multiple memorial and imaginative registers, connect the community and artistic projects with which UPR Caribe Digital has collaborated in Puerto Rico. From Cabo Rojo and Mayagüez, this conference offers a reflection on the contemporary relevance of such living archives, halfway between urban and rural streets, between the human and the more-than-human, between land and water, between the same old and the different, between colonial fascism and the corporeal cry.
Symposium Description: The Symposium on Digital Humanities in Latin America and the Caribbean is an opportunity to continue strengthening our community of practice in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, particularly because in 2025 the UPR Caribe Digital project concludes its first cycle of activities that have received financial support from the Mellon Foundation. We believe that having the opportunity to host a meeting of this nature is ideal for continuing to create mutual support networks and for presenting the work we have done in Puerto Rico and exchanging experiences with similar projects in other areas.
