By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Progresso FC delivered an overwhelming performance in Week 7 of the Premier League of Belize 2025–2026 Opening Championship, routing Wagiya SC 8–1 at home at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk on Sunday afternoon.
The scoring began with an own goal by Wagiya defender Jahmal Chaplin in the 20th minute. Keydenshaay Bowen then took over, scoring in the 29th, 39th, and 43rd minutes to complete a first-half hat trick. Rene Leslie added another in the 46th, and Latrell Middleton made it 6–1 in the 57th minute. Late goals from Jarret Davis (90+1’) and Walter Gomez (90+4’) capped off the dominant display.
Wagiya’s lone goal came from Jonard Castillo in the 20th minute, briefly leveling the score before Progresso pulled away.
With the win, Progresso climb to 20 points from 11 matches, securing second place behind Verdes FC (24 points). They now lead third-place Port Layola (18) by two points and boast the league’s highest goal tally at 31.
In the other Week 7 matches, Port Layola thrashed Capital Sport Club 10–0 at the Marion Jones Sports Complex, while Belmopan FC held league leaders Verdes FC to a 1–1 draw in Belmopan.
