The 14th edition of the Dominican Film Festival New York (DFFNYC 14)— a festival of films made in the Dominican Republic or by the Dominican Diaspora— began yesterday, October 23, and will continue through October 28, 2025, at several venues in New York City, including the Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center, AMC Empire 25, and United Palace.
This year’s festival brings you a diverse selection of films, showcasing the incredible talent and creativity of Dominican filmmakers and actors. From thought-provoking dramas to inspiring documentaries, DFFNYC offers a rich cultural experience that captures the heart and soul of the Dominican Republic.
The 14th Dominican Film Festival New York 2025 open[ed] with a red carpet screening of “Los rechazados” (The Rejected), a wonderful comedy about a group of Dominicans rejected by society who are recruited for a secret submarine mission to save the world, at the United Palace in Washington Heights, on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 8:30pm.
The festival ends with the closing night screening of “Carlota la más barrial,” about a woman (played in drag by urban singer Carasaf Sanchez) who unites her barrio against a group of tigueres (gangsters) who want to take control. It’s at AMC Empire 25 in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. $34.
