By Zoila Palma: Heni Heredia has shared an emotional and inspiring message recounting her ongoing battle with serious health complications and the strength it has taken to overcome them.
In a heartfelt Facebook post Heredia opened up about her medical struggles, financial challenges, and deep gratitude for the outpouring of community support.
Heredia revealed that her health issues began in May 2025, when she started experiencing “severe stomach pains.”
After medical testing, doctors discovered that she had stomach ulcers causing internal bleeding. “I began treatment and follow-ups for that,” she wrote, “but during those checkups, the doctors found even more complications — a hole in my bladder and a condition called diverticulitis in my large intestine.” On October 9th, she underwent major surgery to repair her bladder and remove 12 inches of her intestine — a procedure that cost $41,000 BZD, which she covered through a loan.
However, her recovery took a frightening turn just days later. “Sadly, just ten days later, things took an ugly turn for the worse,” Heredia shared, explaining that her intestine ruptured again, leading to a dangerous internal leak that required an emergency surgery.
During that operation, doctors removed an additional 5 inches of her intestine and installed a temporary ostomy pouch to allow her body to heal before another surgery in the coming months. Despite the pain and challenges, Heredia remains optimistic: “This journey has been one of the hardest experiences of my life — physically, emotionally, and now financially. But through it all, I’m trying to stay positive and strong and trust in God.”
Heredia ended her message by thanking her supporters: “From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank every single person who is reaching out, supporting, donating, or simply kept me and my family in your prayers.”
She continues to recover and is hopeful that with the continued love, kindness, and generosity of her community, she will make a full recovery in the months ahead.
