By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belizean swimmer Davia Richardson put up a strong performance in the women’s 400m freestyle final on Friday afternoon, placing fifth at the XII Juegos Centroamericanos Guatemala 2025.
Competing at the Aquatics Centre in Mazatenango, Richardson clocked 4:45.86—an improvement of seven seconds from her qualifying time of 4:52.89 earlier in the day. Her finish placed her ahead of two Honduran swimmers and a Nicaraguan competitor, confirming her position among the region’s top contenders.
Costa Rica’s Nicole Centeno won gold in 4:28.57, followed by El Salvador’s Adriana Valle (4:31.01) with silver, and Costa Rica’s Yuliana Ortiz (4:32.77) who claimed bronze. Guatemalan swimmer Yanci Vanegas finished fourth in 4:33.15, just ahead of Richardson.
Richardson’s advancement to the final and her fifth-place finish mark a promising start for Belize at the Games, where the country is actively competing in 16 disciplines today.
In other news, Belize beat Honduras 3-1 (27-25, 25-17, 24-26, 25-23) in volleyball led by Herdie Castillo with 17points and Nelissa Ramirez with 16.
Out of the 16 disciplines in which Belize will compete at the Games, nine delegations are already present in Guatemala. These include men’s and women’s volleyball, tennis, judo, aquatics, fencing, cycling, beach volleyball, and athletics—part of the broader field of 55 sports featured at this year’s regional event.
