By Zoila Palma: Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has condemned videos showing members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) distributing food to residents in flood-stricken communities in Veracruz, calling the act “not right.” ‘
The videos, widely circulated on social media, show masked, armed men in military-style uniforms handing out bags of food labeled with the CJNG logo and the words “October 2025.”
At least 65 people have died across Mexico in the past week due to torrential rains and flooding, Border report noted.
The footage, believed to have been filmed in Tihuatlán, Veracruz, appears to be a cartel-led publicity effort.
One of the gunmen can be heard shouting, “On behalf of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel!” while another instructs the cameraman to “move back so it looks better.”
Photographs posted online also show cartel members posing with residents outside their homes, as government relief efforts were still en route to some affected areas.
During her Tuesday morning press conference, President Sheinbaum emphasized that official aid was being coordinated through the government, army, and local authorities to reach flood victims. “We saw the videos. We are not certain they are from real disaster areas, but that obviously is not right,” she said.
