By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Defending champions Yo Creek United made their presence felt in Week 2 of the Orange Walk Football Association (OWFA) Opening Championship, securing a 3–0 win over Guinea Grass FC on Sunday, October 12, at the Louisiana Football Field. Though currently second in Group A with four points, Yo Creek’s performance reaffirmed their championship pedigree.
Liam Reyes opened the scoring in the 17th minute, while Axel Alamilla added a brace in the 38th and 57th minutes to seal the victory.
One day eatlier, on Saturday, Mi Gente surged to the top of Group A with a commanding 6–1 win over Louisiana FC. Jesse August (3’, 77’) and Aiken Aguilar (74’, 88’) each scored twice, supported by early goals from Miguel Yco (6’) and Enry Muñoz (11’). Louisiana’s Dykman Francisco pulled one back in the 29th minute.
Also in Group A, FC Trinidad and August Pine Ridge Central played to a goalless draw on Sunday, leaving both teams still searching for their first win.
Group B launches with wins for Progresso FC, San Estevan
Group B action kicked off on Saturday, October 11. San Estevan Soccer Team defeated Crystal 3–1 with goals from Byron Marroquin (37’), Michael Cruz (62’), and Jamid Muñiz (76’). Crystal’s Euzer Martinez scored in the 48th minute.
Then, on Sunday, Progresso FC edged San Jose Pumas 2–1, with Bryce Lawrence striking early in the 6th minute and Nestor Heredia adding the winner in the 65th. Marlon Miranda had equalized for the Pumas in the 23rd minute.
With identical three-point starts, Progresso FC tops Group B on goal difference.
OW Santa Cruz FC and San Jose FC wrapped up Sunday’s Group B slate with a 0–0 draw.
