By Zoila Palma: Belizeans at home and abroad are celebrating after an outstanding performance by the country’s top cyclists at the 2025 Caribbean Elite Cycling Championships.
Derrick Chavarria captured gold in the Under-23 category, while Oscar Quiroz earned silver in the Elite division, showcasing Belize’s growing strength and talent in regional cycling.
The Belize Tourism Board extended its congratulations to both athletes for their stellar achievements and sportsmanship.
The overall Elite title went to Rudy Alexander Germoso Gomez of the Dominican Republic, who claimed the gold medal after three grueling circuits.
The official results saw Chavarria topping the U23 category ahead of Cuba’s José Dominguez and Trinidad and Tobago’s Jadian Neaves, while Quiroz placed second in the Elite category behind Gomez and ahead of Guadeloupe’s Benjamin Leny.
It was a weekend to remember for Belizean cycling, with fans and officials alike hailing the athletes’ accomplishments as a source of national pride and inspiration for the sport’s next generation.
