By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 22-year-old barber from Carmelita Village, Anzor Jenkins, is facing two counts of theft after police say he admitted to taking a Belize City engineer’s vehicle and cellphone without permission.
According to police, a Belize City engineer reported on October 7 that his black 2010 Infiniti valued at $22,000 and his iPhone 12 worth $1,000 had been stolen. He told investigators that the suspect, whom he knows personally, took the items sometime between 11:00 and 11:45 p.m.
An all-points bulletin was issued, and within hours, the stolen vehicle was intercepted by San Ignacio and Georgeville Police around 2:30 a.m. on the George Price Highway near Tequila Night Club in Cayo. Jenkins was found inside the Infiniti along with the missing iPhone. Both items were later returned to the owner after positive identification.
Police say Jenkins, in an interview conducted in the presence of a Justice of the Peace, admitted to taking the vehicle and phone without permission. Despite this, when arraigned before Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6, Jenkins pleaded not guilty to both charges.
He was offered bail of $5,000 plus two sureties of $2,500 on the condition that he does not interfere with the complainant, stays at least 100 feet away from him, and refrains from committing similar offenses while on bail.
Court records also revealed that Jenkins owed the court $1,505, which he was ordered to pay in full before posting bail — a requirement he successfully met before being released.
