By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police investigations have led to a major breakthrough in the 2021 murder of 69-year-old Geoffrey Gilbert Crawford, a Crooked Tree retiree who was kidnapped from his home, bludgeoned to death, and buried in a shallow grave near his residence.
On Friday morning, 31-year-old Patrick Lloyd Young, a sanitation worker of Sabal Community in Dangriga, was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for Crawford’s murder. Young, who had been on the run for nearly four years, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Mannon Dennison and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until November 28, when disclosure in the matter is expected.
Young now joins 41-year-old Maurice Esley Usher, a construction worker of Taylor’s Alley, Belize City, who was charged with Crawford’s murder in October 2021 and has since been committed to the High Court for trial.
According to police reports, Crawford was last seen on September 29, 2021, being forced into his red Nissan Pathfinder by two men. The following day, police discovered the vehicle abandoned near Crooked Tree, and about 50 yards away, Crawford’s body was found in a shallow grave. A post-mortem confirmed that he died from multiple blunt force head injuries.
With Young’s arraignment, both accused men now await trial in connection with the brutal killing.
