By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize City Council, in partnership with Helpage Belize, celebrated the 35th United Nations International Day of Older Persons with a vibrant community gathering titled An Awesomel Day in the Park with Our Seniors. Held under the global theme “Advocating for Healthy and Inclusive Aging,” the event honoured the wisdom, resilience, and contributions of Belize’s senior citizens.
The Belize City Council said Councillor Stephanne Hamilton addressed attendees, emphasizing the pivotal role older persons play in shaping families, communities, and the nation.
The Day in The Park included entertainment, games, prizes, and a shared meal.

The Belize City Council extended special thanks to Helpage Belize for spearheading the initiative, and acknowledged the support of LIFE, YWCA, Cielo Blue, and the Westley Methodist Women’s Group for helping make the event a resounding success.
“More than a celebration, it was a reminder of the importance of building inclusive spaces where older persons feel respected, valued, and celebrated,” the Beliz City Council said in a social media post.
