By Rubén Morales Iglesias: As the Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2025–2026 season nears its midpoint, defending champions Verdes FC continue to set the pace, sitting atop the standings with 17 points after seven matches. The Green Machine remain unbeaten, with five wins and two draws, and boast a commanding +14 goal difference.
Port Layola, champions of the 2024–2025 Opening Season, hold second place with 11 points. Their campaign has been marked by flashes of attacking brilliance—13 goals scored—but tempered by two losses and a modest +2 goal difference.
Belmopan FC, currently third, have a game in hand and sit just one point behind Port Layola with 10 points from six matches. A win in their pending fixture would see them leapfrog into second place. Their +6 goal difference is second only to Verdes, showing their efficiency at both ends of the pitch.
Napoles FC and Wagiya SC also share 10 points, though both have played seven matches. Napoles hold a +3 goal difference, while Wagiya sit at -3. Progresso FC follow with eight points, and Capital Sport Club (Benque Viejo United) remain winless at the bottom of the table, with just one point and a troubling -24 goal difference.
With Verdes showing championship form and Belmopan poised to climb, the race for playoff positioning is heating up. The next round could prove pivotal.
