By Breaking Belize News Staff: Tonight, 25-year-old Kelvin Brian Willis of the Saint Martin De Porres area is behind bars, beginning a sentence of 3 years, 2 months, and 27 days after being convicted of firearm and ammunition offenses.
Willis was found guilty last Friday of kept unlicensed firearm and kept unlicensed ammunition in connection with a 9mm Daewoo pistol loaded with 14 live rounds. Sentencing was deferred until today, when the Senior Magistrate of Court #3 handed down the prison term.
The firearm bust dates back to Saturday, April 20, 2024, when police on patrol spotted Willis on North Front Street. Officers reported that he tried to walk away as they approached and was later seen discarding an object under a fence. A search of the area led to the recovery of the pistol and ammunition.
Willis, who initially pleaded not guilty, was remanded until granted bail but has now been convicted. This marks his first prison term.
