By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 23-year-old Racoon Street resident has been convicted of harm after admitting to assaulting her younger sister during a family dispute.
Thania Binton, a call center agent, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mannon Dennison in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court to causing harm to her sister.
The incident occurred on Monday, September 22, when Thania reportedly slammed her sister against a door and punched her in the face several times, leaving her with a swollen face and bruises. A doctor at the hospital later confirmed the injuries.
In court, Thania admitted wrongdoing but explained that ongoing tensions led to the altercation. She claimed her younger sister, who was living with her, had mistreated her daughter and ignored notices to move out.
Despite her explanation, Magistrate Dennison emphasized that violence was not justified. As a first-time offender, Thania was spared jail time and instead fined $400 plus $5 in court costs, payable by November 30, 2025. In default, she faces two months’ imprisonment.
