The second round of the Premier League of Belize 2025–2026 Opening Championship kicks off this weekend with three pivotal matches that could reshape the standings as teams begin the second half of the regular season.
Verdes FC vs Capital Sport Club
Isidoro Beaton Stadium, Belmopan
Saturday, September 27 – 7:30 pm
The weekend opens with a top-versus-bottom clash as defending champions Verdes FC travel to Belmopan to face Capital Sport Club (Benque Viejo United). Verdes lead the league with 14 points and a +13 goal difference, while CSC sit last with just one point and a –23 margin.
Their first-round meeting on August 2 ended in a 7–0 rout for Verdes, with goals from Desmond Wade (2), Daiver Vega, Jahryl Smith, Felix Martinez (penalty), Ze Carlos Carrillo, and an own goal by CSC’s Luis Valdez. With a midweek trip to Napoles FC looming, Verdes will look to maintain momentum and extend their lead. CSC, meanwhile, hope to show improvement in front of their home crowd.
Progresso vs Port Layola

Sunday, September 28 – 4:00 pm
Sunday’s action begins in Orange Walk, where Progresso host Port Layola in a mid-table battle. Both teams are tied on eight points, but Progresso’s +3 goal difference gives them a slight edge over Port’s +1.
Their first-round encounter on August 3 ended in a 2–2 draw at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City. Moises Hernandez opened for Port Layola, Latrell Middleton equalized for Progresso, Keydenshaay Bowen gave Progresso the lead, and Trimayne “Pepa” Harris (Gentle) responded for Port. With only two points separating them from second-place Belmopan and third-place Napoles, this match could shape the playoff race and determine which side emerges as the strongest mid-table contender.
Wagiya vs Napoles FC
Carl Ramos Stadium, Dangriga
Sunday, September 28 – 4:02 pm
The weekend wraps up in Dangriga as Wagiya host Napoles FC in a rematch of their first-round meeting. On August 6, Napoles edged Wagiya 2–1 in Belmopan, with Kyle Thomas scoring twice and Rasheed Thomas netting Wagiya’s lone goal.
Napoles enter the second round in third place with 10 points and a +4 goal difference, level with Belmopan and just four behind Verdes. Wagiya sit sixth with seven points and a –4 margin. With a midweek home match against Verdes on the horizon, Napoles will aim to build momentum and climb into second place. Wagiya, meanwhile, look to avenge their earlier defeat and capitalize on home advantage.
