The defending champions Sagitun GIRLZ thrashed Cayo Dreamers FC 8-0 in their rescheduled PWLB opener Wednesday night at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan. The emphatic win not only displayed Sagitun GIRLZ’s attacking firepower but also catapulted them into first place in the Premier Women’s League of Belize standings.
Captain Sabrina Eiley led the charge with a brace (20’, 78’), while Kenya Perez stunned the Dreamers with a rapid-fire hat trick in just five minutes (57’, 59’, 61’). Zulma Ortega added two more (71’, 74’) and rookie Danellie Black sealed the rout in the 89th minute.
With the win, Sagitun GIRLZ now sit atop the table with six points and a +13 goal difference, edging past Napoles FC (+11) on both goal differential and total goals scored (13 to 12). The result marks a dramatic rise from third place and reaffirms Sagitun’s title credentials.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, September 13 in Independence, the match was postponed due to heavy rains and relocated to Belmopan. Despite giving up home advantage, Sagitun GIRLZ thrived on the FFB’s artificial surface, unleashing a relentless offensive display that overwhelmed the Dreamers.
Cayo Dreamers, who had hoped to rebound from their 6-0 loss to Corozal Elite, struggled to contain Sagitun’s fluid attack and now face an uphill battle.
With momentum firmly on their side, Sagitun GIRLZ will look to build on this dominant showing as the PWLB season heats up.
