By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Moist and unstable conditions continue to influence Belize’s weather today. The National Meteorological Service reports cloudy skies with sunny breaks during the day and cloudy periods tonight.
Thunderstorms, showers, and periods of rain are expected mainly over central and northern areas this morning. Activity will gradually decrease by this afternoon, becoming isolated, before redeveloping mostly over the south and coastal areas tonight.
Winds will be from the east to southeast at 10 to 20 knots. The sea will range from light chop to choppy with waves between 2 and 5 feet.
Temperatures will peak at 85°F/78°F (29°C/26°C) along the coast, 92°F/74°F (33°C/23°C) inland, and 78°F/67°F (26°C/19°C) in the hills.
An excessive rainfall watch remains in effect. Additional rainfall amounts of up to 2 to 4 inches are possible, especially over central and northern areas this morning. Residents in flood-prone communities are urged to monitor updates from the National Hydrological Service.
At 3:00 a.m., Hurricane Gabrielle was located about 305 miles east-northeast of Bermuda with sustained winds of 140 mph. Gabrielle poses no threat to Belize. A tropical wave east of the Lesser Antilles (AL93) is showing signs of organization but poses no threat to Belize.
