Wagiya SC surged past Capital Sport Club (Benque Viejo United) 4–2 on Sunday afternoon at Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, snapping a winless streak and lifting themselves out of the Premier League of Belize 2025–2026 Opening Championship basement in dramatic fashion.
Jonard Castillo was the star of the show, netting a clinical hat trick with goals in the 9th, 32nd, and 56th minutes. Mexican Samuel Tun added Wagiya’s second in the 16th, giving the home side a commanding 3–0 lead before halftime.
Capital Sport Club, still searching for their first win of the season, showed late fight with goals from Colombian Yorman Montenegro (63’) and José García (83’), but the damage had already been done.
The match marked Wagiya’s second outing under Mexican coach Renan Arturo Couoh, whose long-standing career in Belize includes stints with several clubs—among them the now-defunct Juventus—as well as years of service with the Belize Men’s National Team and the Football Federation of Belize. His return to top-flight coaching brings renewed structure and ambition to the Dangriga-based side.
The victory propels Wagiya to 7 points, leapfrogging Capital Sport Club and ending the first round in sixth place. CSC remain rooted at the bottom with just one point from seven outings.
