By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) has announced a partnership with Westline Bus Co. Ltd., unveiling the transportation company as the official title sponsor of the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB). The league will now carry the name Westline Premier Women’s League of Belize (Westline PWLB).
“This powerful collaboration marks a major step forward as we continue to build stronger pathways for our athletes and elevate football as a unifying force across Belize,” the FFB stated in its media release. “Together, we’re driving the future of women’s football forward.”
The sponsorship includes a monetary contribution in the lower five figures per year (that’s over $10,000 per year), according to FFB President Sergio Chuc, who also owns Westline. While the exact amount remains undisclosed, Chuc explained that the decision was strategic.
“We’re hoping this serves to attract other corporate sponsors,” Chuc said.
The FFB confirmed that this is the largest sponsorship it has ever received for women’s football, marking a major achievement in the FFB’s efforts to elevate the women’s game.
Westline’s footprint in Belizean football is extensive. The company sponsors Westline FC, a team competing in the Cayo Football Association competitions, and provides full transportation for Verdes FC while subsidizing transport for Port FC and Wagiya. These contributions reflect Westline’s long-standing commitment to supporting football development across multiple regions and levels.
“Our biggest investment in football at this point is Westline Football Academy, where we have a full-time team manager, equipment manager, and two coaches for both male and female youth teams,” Chuc said.
While women’s football worldwide continues to seek parity with the men’s game, such equality remains a distant goal. However, any advancement is considered positive, and the Westline partnership is seen as a meaningful step toward greater recognition, investment, and opportunity for Belize’s women footballers.
The FFB emphasized that the Westline PWLB will serve as a vital pathway for talent identification, development, and national team selection. As the 2025 season unfolds, fans can expect heightened engagement, improved logistics, and a renewed spotlight on the achievements of Belize’s women in football.
In addition to its sponsorship of the Premier League of Belize’s 2025–2026 Opening Championship, Westline has launched two electric intercity buses along the Western Corridor as part of Belize’s E-Mobility Pilot Project. This soft launch marks a major step toward sustainable transport, with routes connecting Belmopan, San Ignacio, Benque Viejo, and Belize City—many of the same communities represented in the PWLB.
The initiative reflects Westline’s commitment not only to football but also to cleaner, more efficient mobility for Belizeans. Fans traveling to matches in the west may soon be riding the same buses that are helping shape the future of public transport.
