By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes FC have emerged as the clear frontrunners in the Premier League of Belize 2025–2026 Opening Championship following the conclusion of Week 6, holding the top spot with 11 points from five matches. The Cayo-based club remains unbeaten with three wins and two draws, boasting a league-best +11 goal differential and 13 goals scored.
Their latest triumph—a 4–1 away win over Progresso FC—strengthened their dominance. With a balanced attack and disciplined defense, Verdes have shown consistency across all fixtures, positioning themselves as early title favourites.
Napoles FC trail closely in second place with 10 points, having secured three wins, one draw, and one loss. Their emphatic 7–0 victory over Capital Sport Club (Benque Viejo United) in Week 6 not only boosted their goal tally to 11 but also reinforced their credentials as serious contenders.
Progresso FC, the only team to have played six matches, sit third with 8 points. Despite being second to Verdes in goals scored (12), their mixed record of two wins, two draws, and two losses has left them vulnerable to teams with games in hand.
Port Layola also hold 8 points from five matches, tied with Progresso but behind on goal differential. Belmopan FC follow in fifth with 7 points, while Wagiya (4 points) and Capital Sport Club (1 point) round out the standings.
With Week 7 approaching, all eyes will be on Verdes to see if they can maintain their unbeaten run and extend their lead. Meanwhile, Napoles and Port Layola remain within striking distance, setting the stage for a competitive second half of the Opening Championship.
