By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 23-year-old Belize City woman is out on bail after being charged with setting her common-law husband’s home on fire on the morning of the Battle of St. George’s Caye Day.
Andesha Andean Myers, an unemployed mother of two, appeared unrepresented in Court #6 before Magistrate Mannon Dennison, where she was arraigned on a single charge of arson. Myers is accused of deliberately setting fire to a 10×16 wooden house in Belama Phase 5, destroying the home and its contents, valued at $6,990.
Court records state that Myers admitted to police that she lit the fire while at home. Her common-law husband told investigators he returned from an errand to find the house in ruins. The residence was uninsured.
Though arson is an indictable offense and no plea was taken, the prosecutor raised no objection to bail. Myers was granted bail of $5,000 with two sureties of $2,500 each, on conditions that she not contact the complainant or his family, remain at her Belama address, stay at least 100 feet from the complainant, and sign in weekly at the Belama Police Station starting Friday, September 19.
Her next court date is set for November 7, 2025.
