By Rubén Morales Iglesias: In a Week 6 match of the Premier League of Belize 2025–2026 Opening Championship, Port Layola FC edged Belmopan FC 1–0 in a pivotal clash at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium on Saturday.

Despite a rainy forecast, the synthetic turf and drainage system held up, allowing both teams to battle for crucial points. Belmopan entered the match in fifth place and now remain there with 7 points (2W, 1D, 2L), while Port Layola’s win lifts them to fourth with 8 points (2W, 2D, 1L) and a +3 goal differential.

The first half saw cautious buildup and midfield duels, with neither side able to break through. The deadlock was finally broken in the 54th minute when Brian Chavez capitalized on a defensive lapse to slot home the winner for Port Layola. Belmopan pressed late, but Port Layola’s disciplined back line held firm.

The result lifts Port Layola into the top four and disrupts the early-season hierarchy, while Belmopan miss a chance to leap into second. With playoff positioning beginning to take shape, this narrow win could prove decisive in the long run.
