By Breaking Belize News Staff: A San Ignacio businessman has been criminally charged following a weekend traffic collision that left two police officers injured.
Police confirmed that 31-year-old Dijon McNab, linked to a popular restaurant on Burns Avenue, has been formally arraigned on multiple charges including Negligent Grievous Harm, Negligent Wounding, Driving Without Due Care, Failing to Keep Right, Failing to Stop and Render Aid, and Failing to Report an Accident.
The incident occurred on Sunday, September 7, along the George Price Highway between miles 68 and 69. Investigators say McNab’s vehicle collided with a motorcycle carrying two officers.
Constable Karen August was thrown into a ditch, sustaining cuts to her forehead, hands, and leg. Constable Kurlyn Hamilton suffered injuries to his head, arm, and face.
Officials say PC August had just completed her shift at the Kontiki Substation and was heading home to Succotz Village at the time of the crash.
Community members in San Ignacio and Succotz have since launched a fundraising effort to help with medical expenses for the officers.
McNab remains in custody as the investigation continues.
