By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two Belize City men, Burton Claire, 31, and Kareem Kimar Allen, 22, were rearrested today after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) directed police to refile charges against them in connection with the brutal 2024 attack on former City Councillor Deannie Requena.
Just last week, on September 3, 2025, four charges were struck out for want of prosecution after the complainant could not be located. Requena, however, had told Breaking Belize News that she had never been informed by the prosecution when the date for the case was.
But under fresh instructions from the DPP, police charged the men again—this time to be tried summarily in the Magistrate’s Court.
Claire faces charges of use of deadly means of harm and wounding, while Allen was arraigned for theft of $3,000 and aggravated assault with a firearm. Both men pleaded not guilty.
The charges stem from an incident on August 4, 2024, at Mile 14 on the George Price Highway, where Requena was allegedly stabbed multiple times and robbed of $3,000 in cash.
In court today, the Senior Magistrate granted each man bail of $6,000 plus two sureties of $3,000. They are due back in court on September 18, 2025, when new disclosure will be served.
Both men and their attorney, Ronell Gonzalez, declined comment outside the courtroom.
